THE SUMMARY OF TODAY’S NEWS BROADCAST IS SHOWN BELOW:
The death of Ariel Sharon after eight months in a coma was met with mixed feelings, since he was widely known as a “Butcher” and as “The Bulldozer” for his aggressive tactics and brutality in allowing the slaughter of Palestinian villages. A notorious war criminal, he was widely admired in Israel but despised in other quarters. After 9/11, he remarked, “We Jews control America and the Americans know it”, which may be closer to the truth than most of us would prefer. An interim agreement between the P5+1 and Iran has been reached over the purported Iranian nuclear weapons program, which all 16 US intel agencies concluded in 2007 does not exist, which they reaffirmed in 2011. It is symptomatic of the “Alice in Wonderland” qualify of politics in Washington, D.C., that 58 or 59 Senators have been lined up to impose greater sanctions on Iran if it does not cease pursuing a nuclear weapons program that our own intel agencies have affirmed it is not pursuing.
Israel and the Pentagon have come out the big winners in the $1.1 trillion omnibus spending bill Congress has just approved, one more indication that Sharon may have got it right. Meanwhile, the Israeli Minister of Defense has apologized for referring to Secretary of State John Kerry as “messianic” for his efforts to bring about a peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians, which no doubt would have the dimensions of a miracle were he to succeed. Stanley Fischer, a noted economist, who is a joint US-Israeli citizen, has been appointed to a key post running the FED, which raises obvious questions about conflict of interest. His credentials are exceptional, but will he act in the best interests of the United States or of Israel? The first political speech Jim gave was during a Ron Paul “Freedom Rally” on 15 April 2008, during which he called for the removal from policy-shaping or decision-making positions of joint citizens, of which this, alas, is a sterling illustration.
A new war in Lebanon could be the outcome of renewed efforts by Saudi Arabia to strengthen the anti-Assad factions at war in Syria. And some of the fighters involved in the violence appear to be using “speed” and other chemical stimulants to stay on the feet in combat. Benghazi seems to be “the gift that keeps on giving”, where US assets and witnesses to what happened there are being killed–15, at last count. A surprising 9/11 fraud involving police and firemen has been exposed, where over $400 million in benefits has been fraudulently obtained for harms allegedly incurred as first responders. In a bizarre case, a man was arrested in Ohio with 58 bombs in his possession as well as weapons and ammunition, where his intentions for their use have yet to be determined. But it looks very much like the ingredients for another bogus attack by a fake terrorist.
Out top “tyranny” news story is that an Appeals Court has struck down “net neutrality”, which should it stand will give greater influence to larger corporations and wealthy interests. The NSA nearly destroyed the internet in the past by using data flows and security holes to capture information the major servers were transmitting, which is one more indication the NSA is willing to transgress any standard or protocol to secure its objectives. It now turns out that NSA can gain remote control of any computer, which could in principle allow them to launch attacks from one nation on another and initiate wars at will. The entire program needs to be terminated and its data base deleted. On a lesser scale, police have beaten a homeless man to death in California and were acquitted in spite of video evidence.
A Indian diplomat who was strip-searched at the airport in what appears to be a violation of international protocols has been charged with infractions of the law involving her nanny, which verges on the absurd. How could these alleged infractions have possibly justified a strip search? India has taken a dim view of this and has taken retaliatory steps in relation to the US Embassy and facilities it is running that are not in strict conformity with the law, which is entirely appropriate. It turns out that 50% of black males and 40% of white males have been arrested by the age of 23. And the Governor of New Jersey offers a poor role model for citizens of the US by his blatant abuse of his position in taking his own retaliation for political reasons, which has led to the witticism that, with Christie, “It’s my way or I’ll shut down your highway!”
More than half the members of Congress are millionaires, which may be a partial explanation for why they are so completely out of touch with the needs of the American people. Noam Chomsky has gone so far as to call the decisions that the GOP has been pursuing and the actions Congress has and has not been taking “pure savagery”, which sounds about right. The Trans-Pacific Partnership is being fast-tracked so American workers will be subjected to even more of the consequences of NAFTA, which is a program for which Bill Clinton bears responsibility. China is taking out its claim to an island in the South China Sea. And, more ominously, sardines are disappearing from the Pacific Ocean, which appears to be one more effect of the Fukushima catastrophe, which may very well turn out to be an extinction-level that threatens the continued live of humans on Earth.
