UPDATE 2/4/09: Spotlight on Palestine

Scroll down page for Updates

Israeli settlers are turning up the violence in occupied Palestine.  They are becoming bolder and more daring in their aggression towards their neighbors to harm and even murder them with impunity.  As much as my time will allow, through pictures and videos, this page will shine a very bright light on those that perpetuate the destruction of a people indigenous to the land, that the Israeli state invaded with abominable force and brutally continues their occupation making normal life an impossibility for all Palestinians.

A work in progress….be sure to check back often for updates.

Chilling quote by the U.N.’s Commissioner-General of the Refugee Agency, Karen Koning AbuZayd, nearly a year ago warned that, “Gaza is on the threshold of becoming the first territory to be intentionally reduced to a state of abject destitution”.

Israeli PM: Settlers’ actions tantamount to ‘pogrom’

JERUSALEM (CNN) — Outgoing Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert opened his weekly Cabinet meeting on Sunday with sharp words for Jewish settlers who opened fire on Palestinians last week, saying their actions constituted a “pogrom.”

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert spoke about the "pogrom" during his weekly Cabinet Meeting.

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert spoke about the “pogrom” during his weekly Cabinet Meeting.

“We are the children of a people whose historic ethos is built on the memory of pogroms,” Olmert said. “The sight of Jews firing at innocent Palestinians has no other name than pogrom. Even when Jews do this, it is a pogrom.

“As a Jew, I am ashamed that Jews could do such a thing.”

He was addressing the riots last week in which Jewish settlers — angry over the forced evacuation of a contested house in Hebron — attacked Palestinians, setting fire to their houses.

In a statement released by his office, Olmert told the Cabinet that he chose the term “pogrom” — a Yiddish word meaning an organized massacre, usually referring to such attacks against Jews — “after much thought.”

“I formulate these words with the greatest care that I can,” the prime minister said.

Israeli police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said two settlers — who were captured on video firing near a group of Palestinians — have turned themselves in and will be remanded before a judge on Sunday.

Two Palestinians moderately wounded in the shooting are still hospitalized, he said.

Israeli police and military on Thursday forcibly removed a group of settlers from a disputed home in the West Bank city of Hebron. The settlers inside the residence had ignored court orders to vacate the house, which a Palestinian man claims belongs to him.

The situation had led to recent clashes between Jewish settlers and Palestinian residents in Hebron, one of the most contested cities in the West Bank, with a Palestinian section and a Jewish settler enclave.

It is home to about 160,000 Palestinians and 500 Israelis.

A Must See Video: Israeli Terrorist Settler Shooting Palestinians in Hebron

Spread and distribute WIDELY!

Footage filmed by Jamal Abu-Sa’ifan, a Palestinian resident of Hebron, documenting a terrorist Israeli settler shooting two members of his family.

The event occurs following the eviction settlers from a Palestinian house they occupied in Hebron. Settlers attacked the nearby house of the Abu-Se’ifan family, and during ensuing clashes, a settler fired his handgun at Hosni Abu-Se’ifan (40), who was hit in the chest and is in stable condition, and his father, ‘Abd al-Hai Abu-Sa’ifan (65) who was moderately wounded in his arm. The two were taken to a Hebron hospital. The video shows other members of the family manage to overcome the shooter, later more terrorist settlers from the nearby settlement Kiryat Arba arrives and the scene, and fires their weapon toward the Palestinian family.

In the hours after the eviction, the terrorist Jewish settlers rioted in Hebron, throwing stones at police and Palestinians and setting fire to Palestinian trees and attacking Palestinian homes.

B’Tselem handed the video to Israeli police in Hebron last night and was “demanding that the assailant is immediately brought to justice and that the involvement of the security guard be investigated”.

“Additionally, the security forces must investigate the failures that allowed settlers to riot throughout the afternoon and evening in Hebron’s Palestinian neighbourhoods,” the rights group said.

There are more than 470,000 terrorist Jewish settlers living in the West Bank and Jerusalem and their numbers are increasing every year, even though all settlements in the occupied territories are illegal under international law.

The settlers at the Hebron house claimed they had bought the building legally nearly two years ago from a Palestinian and said they had documents and videotape as proof. However, the Palestinian has since denied selling the building to the settlers and last month the Israeli supreme court said the house should be evacuated until the ownership dispute was settled.

Note: I would be sincerely grateful if someone could translate the video into English.  Thank you.

Next time it will hurt more

Eva Bartlett | In Gaza

Feb 4, 2009

I first heard of the “Attatra baby” when Red Crescent medics and volunteers brought the burned, mutilated corpse back, weeks after its death.  Nameless, it was only known that the baby was from the northwestern region that had been completely inaccessible for the duration of the Israeli land invasion. The volunteers present when the infant was brought in described their revulsion at her charred skin, her lower body which had been eaten by stray dogs.

I first met the Abu Halima family in the burn unit in Gaza’s Shifa hospital.  The various family members suffered serious and deep chemical burns which Dr. Nafez abu Shabaan, head of the burn department, had attributed to white phosphorous burns.  “It is unlike any burns we have treated,” he had said. “The burns go to the bone, and smoke for hours after treatment.” The various members of the family had disfiguring burns, one of whom –a woman of 21 –had 43% of her total body surface area burned, her3 year old daughter with 22%.

Visiting the Attatra region the other day, I made the connection between the baby girl, the Abu Halima family, and the house an a-Sifa (in Beit Lahiya) resident asked me to visit. It wasn’t until the sister of an Abu Halima family member had recalled her version of their tragedy that I made the connections between these different stories which were in fact all one collective, sordid story.

The family consisted of:

Sa’dallah Abu Halima, 44, deceased, father of many children;

Sabah Abu Halima, 44, badly burned, wife of Sa’dallah;

Daelat Matter Abu Halim, sister of Sabah Abu Halima, 44, mother;

Muhammad, 24, son of Sa’dallah;

Ghada Abu Halima, 21, badly burned, wife of Muhammad;

And many children, 4 deceased and many badly burned.

Daelat recounted what happened the day of the shelling. Israeli tanks had already built up in the area and had begun shelling.

“Everything was here that day: tanks, F-16, Apaches, war-boats…I was running from my house to my neighbour’s house, because of the tanks. But then I heard the tank shelling near our houses and wanted to know if our house or my sister’s house had been hit. My husband said it was too late, ‘whoever is dead is dead. The Israeli army will kill you if you return.’ I didn’t listen to him, I ran to my sister’s house.”

‘Omar said: “The whole house was filled with fire and black smoke, different than normal smoke from a fire. It was hard to breathe and swelled our throats.”

On the 2nd floor, at the door to the childrens room, Daelet pointed to where Sabah and her 1.5 year old girl, Shahed, were huddling. “She was killed right here,” the sister continued, describing Shahed’s lifeless body as “limp like a puppet, and burned”. She said, “We kept pouring water on her body but it was still on fire. We wrapped her in blankets, and when we later unwrapped the blankets her corpse was still smoking.”

Some of the other children and their father, Sa’dallah, were next to the children’s room, all at the end of the hallway. It was an area they thought was safer, far from windows, less chance of injury from shattered glass or Israeli bullets. Three shells fired from Israeli tanks burst through the ceiling metres away from them, one immediately after the other. One of the latter shells was what is believed to have been white phosphorous, which ignited the bodies of those sheltering below, not immediately killing all of them.

Mohammed’s wife, Ghada, was sitting with her 3 year old daughter Mara, both miraculously surviving the shelling and fire, but with disfiguring and painful burns on their faces and all over their bodies.

‘Omar, another son, 18 years old, was downstairs when the shells hit the house. Although Sa’dallah yelled at him to stay downstairs, for his safety, ‘Omar ran up to help. He explained how ambulances and rescue personnel were prevented from reaching the area because of the ongoing firing from Israeli soldiers in the tanks.

Matar and Muhammad, two cousins  living in the house behind Abu Halima’s, tried to help evacuate the injured and the dead. The majority were piled into a wagon pulled by a tractor, and some of the others were put into a car. The convoy headed down the road and were near a local UN school when Israeli soldiers stationed there began firing upon them.

‘Omar continued the narration: “They shot my 2 cousins in the chest and hit me in the shoulder. Israeli soldiers ordered my brother Muhammad to take his clothes off. After they’d searched and humiliated him, he was ordered to put his clothes back on and ‘leave this place, leave the dead people. Take the injured and go.’ We ran away, leaving 3 of the dead bodies in the tractor, and leaving Matar and Muhammad dying.”

The injured had to walk half an hour before close enough that a passing car found and took them to Shifa hospital in Gaza, hours after their attack. They estimate that Sa’dallah and the injured sons -‘Abd a-Rahim (13), Zeid (11), and Hamzah (10) -bled to death over the course of a few days, as ambulances continued to be prevented from accessing them.

Baby Shahed’s body, when it was finally recovered, had been found by dogs. The 5 bodies were all so burned, decomposed, and torn apart that the remaining pieces fit into 1 grave.

No scrap of dignity was allotted to the dead.

Nor to the living. The house was occupied and desecrated by Israeli soldiers, as was the house of Muhammad and Matar. Some of the graffiti penned by Israeli soldiers included: “Your underwear is good,” which the family had tried to scrub off.

In Matar’s house significant shelling and shooting ripped into walls and windows. Much more graffiti in Hebrew stained the walls. A sketch of a nude woman.

And pledges:

“If we missed (left) one of the house corners undestroyed, we will get back to you the next operation!”

“It will hurt more next time!!!”

How could it possibly hurt more?

Matar’s mother pointed out the vandalizing of and theft from her home:

“They (the Israeli soldiers) took everything they wanted from our house. They cleaned the house out. The furniture you see here now is from other people.” Soldiers are known to have set up camps in some of the regions they occupied, taking furniture from homes and leaving it used and ruined at these camps.

“We don’t sleep at night, we’re not safe,” she continued, adding, “We wish there was only daylight, because at night we are still terrified.”

She came back to her grief. “Imagine seeing your child shot before your eyes. They broke my heart.” She said she’d been down the road when the youths and her sister’s family were targeted.

“They tried to save the people,” she said of her sons. “I heard a lot of crying, screaming. We left the house, saw the bodies of Sa’dallah and his children. We called Red Crescent to get the bodies, but they couldn’t get past the tanks. Other people from this area tried to reach them, but Israeli soldiers shot at whoever got near to the house. Ten more people were injured,” she said.

Because of the army’s attacks on civilian homes, because of their obstruction of medical crews, because of their firing on civilians trying to reach the wounded, those injured who might have survived with medical treatment instead bled to death or died of injuries sustained in the bombing.

“My sons bled to death. They (Israeli soldiers) are terrorists. They used white phosphorous, shot civilians, robbed houses…”

Outside the Abu Halima house, clay-like tufts –when pounded, allowing oxygen into the core –sizzled and re-ignited into the chemical fires they had been 23 days earlier.

How to Kill a Palestinian

Dr. Elias Akleh

Commenting on the latest Israeli one-directional onslaught against the Palestinians of Gaza Strip, the Israeli 10th TV channel has disclosed that the Israeli genocidal forces had used half of its air force and had launched at least 2500 air raids against Gaza Strip. The television military correspondent stated that the Israeli warplanes had dropped more than a thousand tons of explosives, including white phosphorous and DIME (Dense Inert Metal Explosive) bombs, during three weeks on the virtually unarmed densely populated 360 square Kilometers Strip. He added that the shells fired by tanks, artillery, gunboats, and infantry were not included in those fired by the air force.

After a whole week of continuous air bombardments Israel sent in its elite foot soldiers; 30,000 of them, and called in 10,000 of its reservists. Armed with the latest weapons of mass murder, covered with an umbrella of free reigning air force, and accompanied with raining shells of heavy artilleries, they drove their tanks into the civilian towns murdering civilians and destroying every structure in their path.

Living outside of Gaza one cannot fully understand the barbarity of this genocide especially when the Western media had barely covered any of its atrocity. To gain a slight idea of its enormity one should remember that, during the 6-days war of 1967, this same Israeli army was distributed on four fronts; Egyptian, Jordanian, Syrian, and Lebanese, and it was fighting regular armies. Now the whole brunt of this army is concentrated on a small strip against unarmed and untrained civilian population.

Latest official count was 1350 murdered, 40% of them were children, and 5300 were injured; mutilated and amputated. It was reported that 80% of the injured were the victims of burning phosphorous bombs. More dead are being discovered under the rebels, and many seriously injured are expected later on to die.

Israeli tanks had left several city blocks completely destroyed without any homes or structure standing. The tanks shelled homes and apartment towers. Due to the small size of Gaza Strip Palestinians had to build vertically. Many apartment towers went up 15-20 stories high with each story containing 6-8 apartments. A total of 20,000 buildings were completely or partially burnt and damaged. The UN has reported that more than 50,000 Palestinians are left homeless and are now crowded into 50 emergency shelters. An estimated of 50,000 more are living with relatives and in tents they erected on the ruins of their homes.

The Israeli bombardment targeted everything in Gaza including government buildings, police headquarters, banks and business offices, the main university, 67 schools sheltering civilians, shopping centers and market places, factories, water, sewer, and electricity infrastructures, private homes and apartment towers and charity organizations. Farms, including their animals, were also targeted and hundreds of acres of crops and fruit groves were incinerated. Religious buildings, where civilians usually seek shelter, were specifically targeted. Israeli fighter planes had completely destroyed 41 mosques, and partially damaged 51 others. One church was also targeted. Even cemeteries were not spared; 5 of them were bombed.

Although the Israeli army was given the exact GPS co-ordinates of every UN structure, as asserted by Christopher Gunness, the UNRWA spokesman, Israeli F-16 planes had repeatedly dropped phosphorous bombed on UN schools knowing very well that hundreds of civilians had taken shelter there. At least 45 children and women were burnt and murdered there.

The UN headquarters in Gaza City was also hit with three, not just one, phosphorous bombs burning tons of humanitarian aid and food stuff. The fire kept on burning for three days. UN-flagged humanitarian convoy was also shelled killing one driver.

Medical centers and paramedics were not spared. The Red Crescent Al-Quds hospital in Tal el-Hawa neighborhood was hit by Israeli shells and caught on fire. Other two hospitals; Al-Wafa and Al-Fata hospitals, were also shelled, leading the World Health Organization to express its deep concern about the serious implications of such bombardments. 16 other smaller health clinics and 16 ambulances were also damaged. Medics were targeted and prevented from helping the injured. Ten of them, including two doctors, were murdered.

Media centers were particularly targeted. Local and international news reporters were prevented from entering Gaza. Those, who were able to enter, were directly targeted. The Al-Shuruq office tower housing several international and Arab media outlets was directly hit. Two cameramen working for Abu Dhabi TV were injured, while the offices of Reuters News Agency, Fox TV, Sky, and Al-Arabiya TV offices were damaged. Another raid had damaged the headquarter offices of Al-Resala newspaper.

Similar to all their previous wars the Israeli soldiers had committed massacres against Palestinian unarmed civilians. They have used internationally banned weapons such as phosphorous bombs, DIME, and depleted uranium, as reported by international physicians, eyewitnesses, and military experts. Israeli soldiers had mutilated the bodies of their victims to instill terror in the hearts of people hoping they will leave Gaza. Israeli soldiers herded many families in one building using them as human shield, and then later on bombed the building on top of them. They shot civilians, mainly children, directly and at point blank. The bodies of some children were found shot several times; as many as 18 bullets in the body of a 12 years old girl, and 12 bullets in the body of her 2 years old sister.

Israeli soldiers had wiped off whole Palestinian families. Al-Samuni family lost 11 members, Abu Aisha family lost 6, Batran family lost 6, al-Rayyan family lost 15 and al-Balousha family lost 5 sisters. Other families, too many to mention here, were either murdered or incinerated by the phosphorous bombs. The Israeli army has been carrying out a deliberate indiscriminate mass murder. During the first Intifada, 1987 – 1993, they murdered 1162 Palestinians. During the second Intifada, 2001- 2006, they murdered 5500 Palestinians. Now, in a short period of three weeks, they murdered 1350 Palestinians.

This onslaught is a holocaust since the many tons of phosphorous bombs, dropped on Gaza cities, had burnt civilians to the bones, burnt their homes and buildings, and burnt their fields and crops. This is the holocaust that the Israeli Deputy Defense Minister, Matan Vilnai, had threatened Palestinians with when he stated: “the more Qassam fire intensifies and the rockets reach a longer range, they will bring upon themselves a bigger shoah (holocaust) because we will use all our might to defend ourselves.”

One cannot help but wonder how could a group of people, who claim to be the victims of a holocaust, commit another holocaust against another nation. What is it that feeds, perpetuates and intensifies this Judaic genocidal spirit although all Arabs, including Palestinians, had offered these Zionist Jews many agreements of coexistence, peace and security? The answer comes through their media outlets, through the words of their scholarly educators, and through the teachings of their Rabbis.

“All of the Palestinians must be killed; men, women, infants, and even their beasts” cries the religious opinion of Rabbi Yisrael Rosen, the director of the long-established Tsomet Religious Institute. He wrote that Palestinians are like the nation of Amalekites, who attacked the Israelite tribes led by Moses on their way to Jerusalem. He stated that the Lord sent down in the Torah a ruling that allowed the Jews to kill the Amalekites, and that this ruling is known in Jewish jurisprudence.

The Torah states: “Annihilate the Amalekites from the beginning to the end. Kill them and wrest them from their possessions. Show them no mercy. Kill continuously, one after the other. Leave no child, plant, or tree. Kill their beasts, from camels to donkeys.” Rosen stated that Amalekites are not a particular race, but rather all those who hate and oppose the Jews; Christians and Muslims.

Many leading Israeli Rabbis support Rosen’s views. Israel’s former Sephardic Chief Rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu advocated carpet bombing of Gaza stating that “there is absolutely no moral prohibition against the indiscriminate killing of civilians during massive military offensive on Gaza” (The Jerusalem Post, 30 May, 2007). His son Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu amplified his father’s genocidal call stating: “if they don’t stop after we kill 100, then we must kill a thousand, then we must kill 10,000 and even a million”

Many Rabbis had argued that Palestinians in Gaza are not innocent civilians and that during war time it is not individuals but nations the Israelis are fighting. (It seems that Hitler had adopted this Telmudic teaching when he persecuted all European Jews)

Israeli educators, scholars, and politicians, openly, advocate the annihilation of all Palestinians. Dr. Nachum Rakover, a legal scholar, opined “They voted for killers and sent them to kill us. To call them (civilians) innocent is a tragic comedy… civilians are partners of the killers” Eli Yeshai, Israeli official in the Orthodox Shas party argued that “extermination of the enemy is sanctioned by the Torah” Many other politicians called for the need for “wiping off Gaza from the face of earth”, and “annihilating of every moving thing there.” The right-wing Israeli politician Avigdor Lieberman proposed nuking Gaza following the US example when it dropped the atomic bomb on Japan during WWII.

This “ideology of annihilation” is by no means a minority opinion in Israel, but represents a mainstream in the Jews of Israel as well as Jews in the West (US). The popular attitude is “if it was right by God to order us to commit genocide during Biblical time, why can’t it be right to commit genocide now. Has God changed his mind?” Indeed Judaic god is a racist genocidal god.

Watch and listen here to an example of how Israeli Jews are brainwashed and indoctrinated into the ideology of annihilation by their rabbis and scholars through Israeli media. Watch Max Blumenthal’s videotape of a group of messianic Orthodox Jewish Chabad-Lubavitch exhibit this ideology in NYC in January 11, 2009.

The Israeli spokesman, Nachman Abramovic demonized Palestinian children stating “They may look young to you, but these people are terrorists at heart. Don’t look at their deceptively innocent faces, try to think of the demons inside each of them … I am absolutely certain these people would grow to be evil terrorists if we allowed them to grow… would you allow them to grow to kill your children or finish them off right now? … honost and moral people ought to differentiate between true humans and human animals. We do kill human animals and we do so unapologetically. Besides who in the West is in a position to lecture us on killing human animals. After all, whose hands are clean?”

Human animal mentioned by Abramovic refers to the Judaic religious belief that Jews are Gods chosen people; the elite and the pure-blooded, while all others (non-Jews, Goyims, gentiles) are animal souls incarnated into human bodies to serve the Jews. Killing a human animal is just a sport like hunting deer or birds.

Another Israeli spokeswoman, Tzipora Menache, stated that she was not worried about negative ramifications the Israeli onslaught on Gaza might have on the way the Obama administration would view Israel. She said “You know very well, and the stupid Americans know equally well, that we control their government, irrespective of who sits in the White House. You see, I know it and you know it that no American president can be in a position to challenge us even if we do the unthinkable. What can they (Americans) do to us? We control congress, we control the media, we control show biz, and we control everything in America. In America you can criticize God, but you can’t criticize Israel.”

Pictures of some of Hamas’ most wanted terrorists

By Khalid Amayreh

Jerusalem, January 11, 2008

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) on Sunday released the pictures of some of Hamas’ most wanted “terrorists” it said it has killed since the start of the Israeli onslaught in the Gaza Strip more two weeks ago.

An Israeli spokesman told foreign reporters in Jerusalem that the world community, especially Americans and Europeans, shouldn’t be deceived by the ostensibly young age of the killed terrorists.

They may look young to you and me. But these people are terrorists at heart. Don’t look at their deceptively innocent faces, try to think of the demons inside each of them.”

The spokesman, Nachman Abramovic, said he was “absolutely certain” that these people would grow to be “evil terrorists if we allowed them to grow.”

If you were in our shoes, would you allow them to grow to kill your children or finish them off right now”?

Asked if he was worried about possible criticisms from the international community, Abramovic said he was not worried a bit because “We are only defending ourselves.”

Would you apologize for defending yourself if another person attacked you without any provocation,” the Israeli spokesman asked an American reporter.

Impressed by the answer, the American reporter said “You are right, Sir, absolutely.”

The IDF spokesman added that Israel didn’t really target civilians in Gaza and that the world should fall into trap of Hamas’s propaganda.

I challenge serious news media to prove that we have killed a single innocent civilian in Gaza.

Don’t tell me Aljazeera said this or CNN said that. You know all these people are anti-Semites and can’t be relied upon to tell the truth.”

He added that in any case, honest and moral people ought to differentiate between “true human beings” and “human animals.”

We do kill human animals, and we do so unapologetically. Besides who in the West is in a position to lecture us on killing human animals. After all, whose hands are cleaned?”

Another Israeli spokesman, Tzipora Menache, said she was not immensely worried about negative ramifications that Operation Cast Lead might have on the way the Obama administration would view Israel.

You know very well, and the stupid Americans know equally well, that we control their government, irrespective of who sits in the White House.”

You see, I know it and you know it that no American president can be in a position to challenge us even if we do the unthinkable.”

Asked if he was not worried that her remarks would cause a public relations disaster, Menache said “what can they do to us. We control congress, we control the media, we control show biz, we control everything in America.

In America you can criticize G-d, but you can’t criticize Israel.” (end)

Now, after this imaginary but very realistic introduction, we shall view the pictures of these “evil terrorists.”

A light upon the nations
